Young Persons Work and Skills Co-ordinator

If you are between 16 and 24 years of age then you can contact our Young Persons Work and Skills Co-ordinator who is available to help you with those first steps into employment, apprenticeship guidance, training and development opportunities and career support and guidance.

Job Fair

Our next Job Fair is taking place on Wednesday 25 September 2024 from 3pm to 5.30pm at the Blaby District offices.

Career and Employment Support Session - Monday 7 October

Following the success of our event in June, Blaby District Council are hosting another employment and career support session in partnership with Futures For You/National Career Service on Monday 7 October from 1pm to 2pm at the Council Offices, Narborough, LE19 2EP.

The session will help provide pre-employment support, including CV and interview skills, as well as how to search and apply for jobs. It will also be a chance to identify training and development opportunities for jobseekers, or those wanting a career change.

How to find us

  • If you're travelling by train, Cross Country trains run direct to Narborough Station
  • By bus, the Arriva 50 route runs approximately every 20 minutes from Leicester to Desford Road, Narborough and then just a short walk to the Blaby District Offices
  • The newly launched FoxConnect digital demand transport service (which replaced ArrivaClick), runs from New Lubbesthorpe to the local bus stops near to the Blaby District Council offices
  • If you are coming by car, we have free visitor parking available at the offices. If you use Weaver Street car park you will need to pay and display a ticket.
Post A Level, T Level and GCSE support

Well done on achieving either your A or T level results, or GCSE results. If you didn't achieve the results that you were hoping for then don't worry, there's lots of support out there for you to help you progress forwards.

The two main avenues for you to look at for your support would be UCAS and the National Careers Service. 

You can get help through UCAS with careers, Apprenticeships and University places, further information in the external link box.

The National Careers Service can help with support and advice, further information on your Post 16 Options can be found in the link in the external link box.

We also have a dedicated officer here at Blaby District Council, who will be able to support you with your future steps and you can get touch with Lewis at enterprisingblaby@blaby.gov.uk or on 07880 393338.

Department for Work & Pensions

A Jobcentre Plus Work Coach is available on a Wednesday and Friday afternoon at Braunstone Civic Centre, Kingsway LE3 2PP.

Appointments must be made in advance through Customer Services. The phone number is 0116 289 0045 or you can use enquiries@braunstonetowncouncil.org.uk to enquire by email.

Leicestershire Adult Learning Service (LALS) provides formal and informal learning programmes for all adults across the County of Leicestershire.

Skills Bootcamps

Skills Bootcamps help you develop new skills that employers are looking for. They’re a great opportunity to train in a new industry or progress in your current career. Skills Bootcamps take up to 16 weeks to complete and they’re flexible, so you can fit learning around your family or other commitments.

Types of Skills Bootcamps

There are hundreds of Skills Bootcamps available across many areas, like:

  • digital, including data engineering, software development and marketing
  • technical, including construction and engineering
  • green, including electric vehicle maintenance and heat pump technology
  • health and social care, including care management and well-being
  • HGV driving, including if you’re new to HGV driving or want to return
  • business and administration, including project management and insurance

Skills for Life Campaign

Young people and adults can register for vacancies via Find an Apprenticeship, where you can set up email and text alerts for notification about new apprenticeship vacancies. 

Free Resources

You can access free resources like Parent Packs or posters for teachers, parents, support workers, and careers advisors who offer advice and guidance about apprenticeships, on the GOV.UK website or Amazing Apprenticeships.

Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas)

Acas gives employees and employers free, impartial advice on workplace rights, rules and best practice. They also offer training and help to resolve disputes. Further information is in the link below.

National Careers Service

The National Careers Service can help you with your career, learning and training choices. They have a online service where you can speak to an advisor and seek the right support required. 

The Prince's Trust

The Prince's Trust work with young people aged 11 to 30 from all over the UK. They work with delivery partners across the UK to offer hundreds of free courses, grants and mentoring opportunities to inspire young people to build their confidence and start a career.
