Lottery records tumble

The records have been tumbling as Blaby District Council’s Love Blaby Lottery marked its eighth successful year.

Since its launch in 2018 an amazing £254,707 has been raised for charities, community groups and sports clubs. This last year alone a record-breaking £39,622 has been amassed to help good causes provide services and support for District residents.

More than £11,500 in cash prizes has also been paid out to lottery players during 2025, a bumper amount of winnings which brings the eight-year prize total to more than £58,000.

To celebrate the anniversary a special promotion offered one good cause an extra £500. The group chosen at random was Enderby Lawn Tennis Club (pictured) with Eamonn Canavan, club treasurer, saying: "It was a great surprise and we are very appreciative. The money raised from the lottery over the years has been a great source of additional funds."

There are currently 47 organisations signed up to the lottery which players can choose to support, with 60p of each £1 ticket going to the chosen good cause. In return players can win up to £25,000 each week as well as the monthly bonus Super Draw prizes.

The 38th Leicester Scout Group in Enderby joined the Love Blaby Lottery five years ago and they receive around £200 a year through the draw. Trustee, Martin Dexter said the money helped pay for room hire, supplies, storage costs and building maintenance. He added: "The best bits about being involved with the lottery is it’s simple to run, easy to join and it’s cheap enough to not scare players away."

Leicester Animal Aid based in Huncote, which joined the lottery at the outset, is on track to raise nearly £1,200 this year thanks to supporters of the Love Blaby Lottery.

Fundraising manager Helen Wilber said the money raised was invaluable in assisting them to care for lost, neglected or abandoned pets, support for vulnerable people to keep their pet and pet first aid courses. She said: "We love the Blaby Lottery, long may it continue. Thanks to everyone involved."

Marc Greenwood, Blaby District Council Director for Place, said: "Our Love Blaby Lottery supports so many worthwhile causes across the District. For it to have made a record-breaking amount over the past year is amazing. It’s a testament to the many generous people who support the lottery and ensure we can continue to do our best to assist organisations which make such a difference to our communities."
