By-election polling cards going out
Polling cards are going out to those District residents who live in Narborough, Littlethorpe and Whetstone who are affected by a Leicestershire County Council by-election and are being asked to vote for a new representative.
A by-election for the Narborough and Whetstone division of the county council takes place on Thursday 16 April. The division covers all of Narborough and Littlethorpe and parts of Whetstone.
It has been prompted by the resignation of current representative County Councillor Andrew Thorp.
Nominations are now open for the seat and will close at 4pm on Wednesday 18 March. Details of the candidates standing will be published soon after this.
Residents who are not already registered to vote need to apply by midnight on Friday 27 March.
If you have voted by post for the last two years you may have been affected by recent changes in legislation which limits how long a postal vote is valid for.
This means if you didn't reapply by 31 January 2026, your postal vote will have been automatically cancelled. You will need to reapply by 5pm Monday 30 March if you still want to vote by post.
Everyone now needs a photographic form of ID to present at a polling station in order to vote. Acceptable forms include a driving licence, passport, Blue Badge or Older Person's Bus Pass.
If you don't have an acceptable form you can get a free Voter Authority Certificate (VAC). If you want to apply for a VAC or want to make a proxy vote application, the deadline is 5pm Wednesday 8 April.
Blaby District Council will run the election on behalf of Leicestershire County Council.
All information about voting including registering for a postal or proxy vote, or applying for a free Voter Authority Certificate (VAC), can be found on our Elections and Voting page.
